Examination and treatment costs
If you have been referred by your general practitioner, the costs of the examination (approx. 350 euro) will be covered by your basic insurance and will be reimbursed in full. Please take the deductible into account: this is the statutory compulsory annual contribution of 385,- euro (or higher if you have agreed this with your health insurer). This excess applies to all hospitals and clinics in the Netherlands.
Not all treatment options are covered by your insurance. Whether or not your treatment will be reimbursed depends on the diagnosis.
If the diagnosis meets the requirements of the Zorginstituut Nederland, the treatment will be covered by your basic insurance. Please note that all reimbursements from the basic insurance will be deducted from your own risk.
What is reimbursed?
During the discussion of the treatment plan you will be informed about the costs.
- Your first consultation with intake and Echo (Duplex examination) of the legs will be reimbursed, provided you have been referred.
As an indication: the costs for this are approximately 350 euros.
- Most endovenous treatments, such as EVLT, will be reimbursed, provided you have been referred.
As an indication: the costs for this are approximately 1200 euros per treatment.
Please note:
For all reimbursed treatments, you must have been referred by a general practitioner.

What is not reimbursed?
- All examinations and treatments if you have not been referred by the general practitioner (or other referrer such as a medical specialist).
- Ambulatory flebectomy according to Muller. The costs for this are 475 euros per treatment. One leg will be treated at a time.
Sclerotherapy if not medically indicated. The costs for this are 200 euros per leg (30-minute appointment), plus the costs for elastic stockings (26 euros per item). One leg will be treated at a time. Usually, 2 to 3 treatments per leg are required over a period of a number of months.
